about this page
i’ve been in living in osaka, japan since june 2005. i know this experience isn’t going to happen twice in a lifetime, so i’ve been documenting the hell out of it ever since i got here. i’ve been taking pictures all over the place with my cell phone and digital camera. i decided to start sorting through the thousands of pictures that i’ve taken to give people on the web a taste of what it’s like to live in japan. in the process, i hope to understand my own experience here in new ways.
the title of this page was inspired by the following japanese proverb: nido aru koto wa sando aru (what happens twice happens three times). one of my students shared this proverb with me.
apparantly i didn’t understand the meaning of this proverb, because it is usually used when bad things happen… for example if you get a bike accident, and then get into another one the following week… “be careful… nido aru koto wa sando aru“… anyways, i’m sure the phrase means different things to different people.
